Last month I joined the Southern Summer of Socks Knit-a-long (SSoS KAL) and registered for Ravelry, the new knitting and crochet networking website.
SSoS is my first knit along. My goals are to finish or frog 4 unfinished pairs of socks, (I soon discovered there were 8 unfinished pairs lurking in my UFO basket), to limit myself to 2 sock projects at a time and to use only by sock yarn stash until it is used up or the KAL ends 31st March 2008. Wish me luck!
To date, I have completed 4 pairs of former UFO socks, frogged the remaining 4 pairs and re-birthed the yarn for reuse. I now have 2 pairs of socks on the needles! Five more months sock knitting, with enough yarn to complete 14 pairs of socks.
I have also been knitting for the new members of the family. This is a Baby Pinwheel Jacket for a new neice. I am knitting the sleeves both at the same time using the magic loop method.
Today, my invitation to Ravelry.com arrived! I have so much to do, get my photos onto Flickr, update my ravelry databases, check out the message boards . . . So little time.

Earlier this year I knitted a complete outfit for my wedding in August. The top is from a pattern called Tubey from Knitty.com using Sirday Silky Look acrylic yarn in Coffee Cream colourway.

The skirt is from the pattern Intolerable Cruelty also from knitty.com using Bendigo Woollen Mills 5 ply in Raffia colourway.
The Muff is also a knitty pattern using various novelty yarns in shades of coffee, cream and chocolate. Yum!

Hello again,
It has been a while since my last post, due to a hectic schedule of family events, new babies and soccer season. In the last 6 months I completed the Modified Baby Surprise Jacket and Beret which I mentioned in my last post. The baby’s parents were delighted with the gift. See photo below

We also attended the wedding for which I was knitting the top down jumper. However the jumper did not eventuate and has been frogged and reused for another project. The happy couple were expecting their first baby Opal who was born this month. I have been madly knitting for Opal and her yet-to-be-born cousin. Opal’s gift is a Pinwheel Sweater from a free pattern atelann.com the yarn I have used is the Anchor Magicline in an orange and lemon colourway. See below:

To use up yarn left over from the jacket I designed a multidirectional bib after reading Iris Schreier’s Modular Knits.

I have also made a hat which I am yet to photograph. Bye for now, happy knitting, Milly.

Hello, welcome to my blog. This is Millthorpe, a village in the Central Tablelands of NSW, where I live with my family and craft obsession.

I hope to post weekly, on my craft, family and life in Millthorpe.
On the topic of craft I am a NSW Knitters Guild Member, Treasurer of the Canowindra Group, active member of Knit4Charities online craft community and member of the Golden Memories Museum Jacoba Cottage Craft Group. I have been obsessed with yarn all my life and have been knitting over 30 years.
My family consists of myself, my partner (a cow obsessed wanna be farmer cum truck driver), a 16 year old drama queen, a 12 year old soccer player and an 11 year old karate kid.
We also share our home with The Knitting Monster, my partner's name for my yarn stash, pattern books, knitting magazines, work in progress, work at standstill and other accessories. The Knitting Monster and his cousins live in my linen closet and storage bins strategically placed in my bedroom and garage. Like gremlins, placid Knitting Monsters change dramatically when exposed to sunlight or bursts of inspiration.
I always have a number of projects on the needles. A small simple project like socks for travelling and mindless knitting. For quiet moments, I also have a more challenging project on hand, a boredom buster like a top-down pattern-in-my-head design. My current projects are an Elizabeth Zimmermann Baby Surprize Jacket in Anchor Magicline blue/green with matching beret for a cousin's new son (see below), a pair of toe up short row heel socks for myself and a top down jumper I am designing to wear to a wedding in June. I will post progress photos in future posts.

That's all for this week, Knit on, Milly.
